Desired Qualifications & Experience

  • One year of college completed or equivalent age (unless completed our CIT2 Program)
  • First Aid and CPR preferred
  • Certification or sufficient experience and knowledge in an activity to safely teach campers
  • Excellent role model for children: high moral standards, outstanding character and integrity
  • Neat and professional appearance: no tattoos or body piercing
  • Must agree to a criminal background check

Additional Qualifications

  • Lifeguard certification required for water activities
  • WSI required for swimming instructor
  • Completed at least one year of college or work experience

Expectations & Responsibilities

  • Teach designated activity to groups of campers
  • Develop and carry out lesson plans for different age groups and skill levels
  • Instruct campers in emergency procedures
  • Maintain equipment in good working order
  • Be responsible for a cabin of campers and supervise them during wake-up, cabin clean-up, mealtimes, rest hour and bedtime
  • Provide a safe environment for campers and self
  • Lead small and large group activities
  • Supervise campers’ participation in structured and unstructured activities
  • Nurture each camper’s development of social skills and self-esteem
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers
  • Interact appropriately with campers in a variety of situations
  • Appropriately model behavior and use positive behavior management techniques: enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control
  • Carry out other duties as designated

Essential Functions

  • Must possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers
  • Be able to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques as trained by camp
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to camp activity
  • Able to assist campers in a case of emergency
