Qualifications to become staff

Desired Qualifications & Experience
- One year of college completed or equivalent age (unless completed our CIT2 Program)
- First Aid and CPR preferred
- Certification or sufficient experience and knowledge in an activity to safely teach campers
- Excellent role model for children: high moral standards, outstanding character and integrity
- Neat and professional appearance: no tattoos or body piercing
- Must agree to a criminal background check
Additional Qualifications
- Lifeguard certification required for water activities
- WSI required for swimming instructor
- Completed at least one year of college or work experience
Expectations & Responsibilities
- Teach designated activity to groups of campers
- Develop and carry out lesson plans for different age groups and skill levels
- Instruct campers in emergency procedures
- Maintain equipment in good working order
- Be responsible for a cabin of campers and supervise them during wake-up, cabin clean-up, mealtimes, rest hour and bedtime
- Provide a safe environment for campers and self
- Lead small and large group activities
- Supervise campers’ participation in structured and unstructured activities
- Nurture each camper’s development of social skills and self-esteem
- Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers
- Interact appropriately with campers in a variety of situations
- Appropriately model behavior and use positive behavior management techniques: enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control
- Carry out other duties as designated
Essential Functions
- Must possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers
- Be able to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques as trained by camp
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to camp activity
- Able to assist campers in a case of emergency
All counselors are responsible to their Unit Head
